The reborn landscape
S´Hostal, stone landscape and labyrinthIn 1994 Líthica rented S´Hostal quarries in an attempt to prevent them from becoming buried under the rubble and to turn them into a nature and cultural area, giving them new life through the creation of a comprehensive rehabilitation project. The aim of this project was the transformation of the quarries into stone landscapes, a legacy of the quarry worker, a labyrinth and a large garden.
In this new stage of the quarry, Líthica wants to highlight its
essence as an area of stone, as well as the
techniques that were used to create it.
Maybe due to the essence itself of the areas of dug stone
a place where, according to some legends, the myth of Crete was born, or due
to their shape, which is like a labyrinth indeed...
